Jewelry: A Medium of Symbolic Communication, featuring the work of Geri Verble and Sandy Johnson, on display through Feb 2, 2025. Geri Verble specializes in contemporary ethnic jewelry. With every bead telling a story, the cultures that inform and inspire her work communicate an ethnic significance. Sandy Johnson has mastered the art of metalsmithing. Beginning with glorious, semi-precious stones, she saws, melts and hammers the metal to create bold, expressive, unique jewelry.
FEATURED ARTIST:
LAUREN DEYO
After working as a passionate, mixed media artist for nearly a decade I have learned a painting process that captures my senses.
I love the discovery process this new approach brings to my work. It’s my journey where truths lay underneath the multiple layers of paper, paint, inks, and varnish. My role in the journey is to first build up the panel with information. Ultimately, to sand, scrape and peel back bits to find my truth in the work. Finding the end of the journey is part of this creative challenge I give myself. It’s important for me to find relationships between shapes, colors and textures. I ask myself how do the elements I choose work together? As well, I look for contrasts in the elements and try to create them along the process. This adds additional interest in the work.
