Kevin Burgess: traditional New Mexico tin work
Born in Albuquerque, NM June 30,1966. Graduated from Highland High School 1984. Kevin Burgess is a native New Mexican whose rich heritage has heavily influenced this self -taught artist in the traditional styles and techniques of New Mexican metal work. While living in Germany and Spain and traveling throughout Europe, he absorbed many ideas from those cultures, which also expanded his artistic world. His work can go beyond the traditional tinwork and explore many facets of metal work. His works has been shown at various museums including The Whitney Museum of Art, New York and Santa Fe Museum of Art, Santa Fe. Kevin is the eighth generation grandson of Bernardo Miera y Pacheco, who was a New Mexican: cartographer, rancher/farmer, soldier, mathematician and credited with being one of the founders of New Mexico's santero tradition. Kevin became a member of the Spanish Colonial Art's Society in 2005. His work can be seen annually at Spanish Market in Santa Fe. UNM's historic Scholes Hall as well as creating the exterior lighting for that building. He was the 2007 Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau artist representing his work in their press campaign, trade shows and hand-made gifts/presentations to dignitaries and associates.

He has won many awards including: 2005 - 3rd place in tin at Expo New Mexico, Purchase Award Expo New Mexico by Las Colores Gallery and NMACF purchase award.; 2006 - NMACF Best of Show; 2007 - 2nd place tin work Spanish Market, 1st place tin Expo New Mexico. He has shown at Mariposa Gallery in Albuquerque and presently shows exclusively with Sumner & Dene in Albuquerque.

In September 2008 he will be part of an exhibit at Sumner & Dene in Albuquerque titled Local Treasures Celebrating New Mexico Artists”, Sept 5-27 with an opening reception Friday, Sept 5, 5-9pm. Participating New Mexico artists includes Kevin Burgesss, Marjie Bassler, Drew Coduti, Lisa Chernoff, Jane Chilton, Robert Redus, Terry Lawson Dunn, Dale Pino, Goldie Garcia, Ray Wiger, Katherine Irish Henry, Leighanna Light, Ruth Morris, Jeannie Sellmer, David Snow, Rhonda Reed, Mike Tarter, Suzanne Visor, Ted Young, Daphne Hearn, and Tom Adam.
