2018 Local Treasures
Mary Moore Bailey: Like many young Albuquerque painters Mary initially studied art with Frank McCulloch before spending 40 years in the marketing industry. Today she paints full time in her Placitas studio. Known for her unique contemporary petroglyphs, Mary creates her own imaginative world in each painting~ telling a new story on each canvas. She has spent a life time of community work serving on boards of The Humane Society, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Civitan, and Rotary. Her paintings can be seen Downtown at Sumner & Dene Gallery.
Rex Barron: Painter Rex is a master of oil, acrylics and watercolor. He studied art and animation at UCLA and Art Center College of Design becoming an animator & illustrator. His film work includes The Lord of the Rings, Fat Albert and the Pink Panther. His illustrations adorn children’s books including “Eggbert, the Slightly Cracked Egg. Rex has served on the board of NM Watercolor Society, Rio Grande Art Association and Colored Pencil Society of America. His work can be seen at Warren Fine Art & Collectibles Gallery in Old Town.
Ming Franz: Multiply Award Winning painter Ming is an internationally celebrated teacher and author of her Splash Color technique that dates from the 8th Century. Her unique technique is splashing liquid color onto sheets of mulberry paper then enhancing the sheets to whatever the imaginations sees in the heart of the work. The resulting works have the compositional character and structure of abstract paintings with a dramatic quality and luminescent color. Ming’s work may be seen at The Gallery ABQ.
Roe LiBretto: Master Painter Roe studied art at the Brooklyn Museum and the School of Visual Arts. Her unique techniques represent her authentic vision and brilliance. Roe describes her figurative pieces as ‘visual reminders of universal opportunities for inner growth.’ Known as a fixture and friend to all in the Albuquerque arts community, she is the ultimate team player with her consistent positive and support force. Her unusual contemporary figures are exhibited internationally and at Ghostwolf Gallery in Old Town.
Trish Meyer: Trish, a native of Dublin, Ireland, has enjoyed a variety of creative careers from musician to motion graphic designer & author, before falling under the spell of fine art. She employs a wide range of techniques including collagraph, lithography, mokulito and photo processes, with a blend of calligraphic marks and hi-tech digital imagery. Trish loves donating her time to create websites for local art organizations including Tamarind, Escribiente and LIBROS plus she has organized fundraising events for Open Space Alliance and NM Cancer Center. Her mixed media works can be seen at Weyrich Gallery.
Denise Weaver Ross: Muralist, poet and painter Denise has a MFA in printmaking from the University of Massachusetts. Since 1996 she has been creating poetry, murals and paintings in Albuquerque. Through the years she has donated artwork and helped raise money for Little Bird de Papel, PB&J, NM Philharmonic, the Endorphin Power Co. and the Sickle Cell Warriors. Her work can regularly be seen at Ghostwolf Gallery in Old Town. Her IChing paintings can be seen in October at Tortuga Gallery.
